Description

The Capacity Building and Sustainability Program for Cocoa Cooperatives in Côte d'Ivoire, aimed at improving the living conditions of their member-farmers (TEICACAO), seeks to structurally transform Ivorian cocoa cooperatives by integrating sustainability principles into their business model. It addresses environmental, economic, social, and institutional dimensions simultaneously to enhance their overall performance. The approach relies on intensive support for cooperatives to improve their governance, financial management, market access, and compliance with international standards, while ensuring tangible improvements in farmers' incomes and living conditions.

Objectives

🌾 Economic sustainability of cocoa cooperatives:
Improve the financial management, marketing, negotiation, and structuring of cooperatives to stabilize their incomes and provide better compensation for farmers.

📈 Enhanced environmental and agroecological sustainability:
Promote agroforestry, combat deforestation, and restore forests through sustainable agricultural practices to preserve ecosystems and comply with European standards.

👥 Improved living conditions for farmers:
Sustainably increase producers' incomes through better prices, new markets, crop diversification, and compensation for environmental services.

⚖️ Enhanced governance and professionalism of cooperatives:
Improve transparency, member participation, compliance with social and traceability standards, and the capacity for dialogue with public and private stakeholders.
