Description

The Agricultural Transformation Program in the Savanna Zone – Phase 1 (PROTAS-P1) is a structuring project designed to sustainably modernize agriculture in this region of Benin. It is based on an integrated model focused on developing maize, soybean, and poultry value chains. The program's approach relies on intensifying agricultural production, structuring and organizing value chains, and establishing an agro-industrial ecosystem. The objective is twofold: to reduce dependence on poultry product imports and significantly stimulate local production. PROTAS-P1 also prioritizes modernizing production systems, investing in essential rural infrastructure, and establishing strong economic partnerships between producers, processors, and investors.

Objectives

🌾 Intensification of maize and soybean production:
Support the poultry sector by developing 120,000 hectares of maize and 80,000 hectares of soybeans, using certified seeds, fertilizers, and agroecological practices.

💰 Development of commercial poultry farming:
Ensure an annual production of 41,000 tons of poultry using modernized rearing kits, hatcheries, and poultry houses.

💧 Strengthening climate resilience:
Reduce vulnerability by promoting solar irrigation, water management, and the use of adapted seeds.

🔗 Integration of supply chains and storage:
Construction of 60 silos with a capacity of 1,000 tonnes, 90 silos of 500 tonnes, as well as 150 drying areas.
